Deputy Boutros Harb issued a statement today commenting on what Secretary General of Hezbollah, Sayyd Hassan Nasrallah, said about the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir. He said that now that the parliamentary elections were over, all the Lebanese must begin a fresh start. Religious co-existence has always been the law by which all Lebanese live. Bkirki has always been an advocate of this very co-existence. Thus, Hassan Nasrallah was not entirely right about criticizing the Patriarch for that. Harb negated that attending the issue of Al Fakih state politically has any baring on the Islamic religion per say.
If Al Fakih ideology were to be integrated into the political foundations of the government, then the identity of Lebanon and the Lebanese will be threatened. To Harb, the Patriarch did not talk about Al Fakih State religiously but as a political foundation. Harb insisted that if one will be prosecuted about making political comments, then Lebanon will be in great trouble.
In the same statement, Deputy Harb explained that it was only normal for the family and friends of slain army first lieutenant Samer Hanna to protest against the release of his murderer. It is to be reported that Hanna was killed while on duty. However, to add insult to injury, Hassan Nasrallah claimed that the blood of the slain was being used for provocative propaganda. Harb denied that claim by presenting the fact that none of the candidates touched on that topic during their campaigns.
