BEIRUT (Agencies) AlArabiya
Armed clashes broke out between supporters of rival political groups in mainly Muslim west Beirut on Sunday and a stray bullet from the clashes killed one woman, Al Arabiiya and the army said.
The Future Movement official had no details on the woman's identity, but a security official confirmed that a 30-year-old woman was killed by a stray bullet in the fighting.
Saad al-HaririThe fighting pitted supporters of Shiite parliamentary speaker Nabih Berri's Amal movement and the Future Movement of Sunni prime minister-designate Saad Hariri in the Aisha Bakkar district of the capital.
Automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades were being used, correspondents said.
An army spokesman told AFP that all gunmen were being ordered off the streets or risk being shot by soldiers, as the military tried to regain control of the situation.
He gave no motive for the fighting.
The clashes come only a day after Sunni leader Hariri was named as prime minister, with the support of his parliamentary bloc and Amal, and followed Berri's re-election as speaker on Thursday.
Hariri's camp clinched 71 out of parliament's 128 seats in Lebanon's parliamentary election on June 7, defeating a opposition coalition led by Hezbollah, another Shiite movement.
